Lhasa, Everest and Namtso

Nine days from Lhasa with, per the listing, the city's palaces, a night at Everest Base Camp and a last day at sacred Namtso Lake. It does not go to Kailash or Lake Manasarovar: it is the trip to look at if two weeks in the far west is too much.

Lhasa, Everest Base Camp & Namtso, 9 Days

About this experience

Per the listing, this is a small-group trip with permits and 4-star hotels: Lhasa's palaces, a night at Everest Base Camp and a last day at Namtso, a sacred lake north of Lhasa. Pickup is available. It is the Tibet trip for people who want the high plateau and a Himalayan giant without the two weeks a Kailash loop takes.

Be honest with yourself about the altitude. Lhasa sits at 3,650 m, the Tibetan base camp below the north face of Everest above 5,000 m and Namtso at about 4,700 m. Nine days is short for that, so use the Lhasa days to rest. Ask what the night at base camp looks like: lodging that high is simple compared with hotels in Lhasa.

It does not replace a pilgrimage. There is no Lake Manasarovar, no Kailash and no kora. If those are why you came, the 15-day loop from Lhasa covers them once the Kailash area reopens in spring 2027. Holders of Indian passports should confirm with the operator before booking any Tibet tour.
